Emile Zole (1840-1902)
I am currently in the middle of two books by Emile Zole: Therese Raquin & The Beast Within, which I highly recommend. The two novels I am reading are tales of murder and deceit; not for the faint of heart. Born in Paris, he was a very influental French writer. The cover of my Therese Raquin copy displays Degas' Melancholy painting (see prior Melancholy entry).
